Cross: My new calling

My last calling was as Ward Mssion Leader. And you know when people as me now about my life back in Germany, I do get...wistful?...about the life I used to lead.

I mean, I'm ok now, too. Not wonderful but ok. And I'm building, progressing. The fact is, I work part-time as an instructor for the American Red Cross. And they really do love me there. Plus, duh, I love being someone who's helping others learn to save lives. Wow. I mean, point blank, wow.

Well, ok, I was called by my bishop in my new mega-ward (seriously we have over 700 (active?) members) to be a ward missionary. Now, I truly am humbled and excited to serve in whatever capacity I'm called. But yeah, I have to adjust a bit, don't I? The fact is, when I suggested ward missionaries (when I was WML), I had looked at the members in our ward who had no callings and prayed about how I could engage them more. My "inspired' plan was to ask most of them to accept this calling.

So how do I put this nicely? I mean, it was kind of a way to encourage people to be more active who otherwise seemed like they had, well, not much to do.

Ok, the dynamics with my current ward are way different. And I trust, beyond any petty feelings I seem to have, I trust fully that God is placing me where I need to be. Just as sure as the stars in the sky are there to guide us, so too are our callings meant as well.

If I ever was proud, I'm here to learn humility. And honestly? I'd rather spend time now to learn that than later.

God's blessings on us all!

1 aYea, for thus saith the Lord: Have I put thee away, or have I cast thee off forever? For thus saith the Lord: Where is the bbill of your mother’s cdivorcement? To whom have I put thee away, or to which of my dcreditors have I esold you? Yea, to whom have I sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.

So I had a really hard time with this chapter.. and probably will with every Isaiah chapter, but after lots of reading and re reading and looking up footnotes and such, what I got out of this chapter would be,

We can use our agency to follow the Lord or to not follow the Lord, but it is by OUR iniquities and transgressions that the Lord must not dwell with us.  It is our choice, he will never leave us if we want him there. If we live worthy to have him in our lives he will be there.

9 For the Lord God will help me. And all they who shall acondemn me, behold, all they shall bwax old as a garment, and the moth shall eat them up.
10 Who is among you that feareth the Lord, that obeyeth the avoice of his servant, that bwalketh in darkness and hath no light?
11 Behold all ye that kindle fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks, walk in the light of ayour fire and in the sparks which ye have kindled. bThis shall ye have of mine hand—ye shall lie down in sorrow.

When we trust in the Lord and live worthy of his companionship he will strengthen us against our enemies.  When we are obedient the Lord gives us light to guide us.

PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS.... Explain the last sentence...

I have a hard time understanding Isaiah chapters.. I came across another blog and really liked what the girl had said and after reading the chapter a time or two again I agree whole heartedly.. so thanks to her for the following comments that I am sharing with you now...

Obviously the warnings are important. If we don’t repent, we’ll be destroyed (physically and spiritually).

What else is important is the history and the prophecies surrounding the Messiah and the Jews. If we learn about the signs that will take place before the 2nd Coming, then we will be better prepared spiritually. We will know what to look for and as the signs are fulfilled, our faith will increase.

Already the gathering of the Jews has begun and continues to progress. Today we see wars and rumors of wars and all sorts of discord in the world. It will get far worse before Christ comes again.

But if we look for the signs and know what they mean, then we will (hopefully) feel the need to repent and live closely to the Holy Ghost and we will be prepared for His coming.

2 Nep:5

There was much in this chapter to think about, but two things stood out that I had not seen this way before.

First, he teaches us that we do not need to record all of the ugliness that happens to us in our lives. Not to record the pain and anger that accompanies it. He stated briefly what the situation was and later we see the solution. I know some people that put every bad thing that is ever done them in their journals. While we need to record what happens that makes a difference in our life, we do not need to record things that will hurt others if they read it. It is better that we let them know that we always loved them rather than the momentary anger that we felt. Nephi always loved his brethren and worried for their eternal salvation.

We also see that on occasion there are times that we need to get up, get all ] we need or can get, and get out of a place or situation that is bad for us. Nephi didn't waffle about it, trying to figure out what was the best, or how hard it would be to move them all and get resettled or that he could try one more time to convert his brothers to the truth. He gathered the important items needed for the trip and the righteousness of his people and left. I am sure that he felt pain at leaving his brothers and their resolve not to choose righteousness.

I have been in bad situations with family or friends that the only solution was to get myself out of the situation. It was affecting me emotionally and spiritually and there was no choice... But I had to mull it over in my mind for a very long time before I realized that even if it hurt the other people involved it was the only solution for the problem.

That isn't to say that I am only concerned with my happiness and comfort, but sometimes there are situations in life that require us to remove ourselves from it.

2nd Nephi Chapter 4

Many things struck me when I read 2nd Nephi Chapter 4.  One being verse 6
"Wherefore, if ye are acursed, behold, I leave my blessing upon you, that the bcursing may be taken from you and be answered upon the cheads of your parents"

Lehi is talking to the children of Laman and Lemuel, telling them that their sins will be put on their parents heads, since their parents are not teaching them correctly, if their parents had been teaching them what is right they would live righteously.  I like that this shows that God is a just God and isn't going to hold someone accountable for something they knew nothing about.

Another thing that hit me was in verses 15-35, how Nephi talks about how much he trusts in the Lord, and that even though he is tempted, he asks God to give him the strength to withstand the temptations.  When I read the Book of Mormon, I think of Nephi as this perfect prophet, and yet he himself admits to having weaknesses, it kinda makes me feel less bad about my own weaknesses.

Well, I finished reading the Book of Mormon last night for the first time in over 10 years. (I had nearly forgotten everything in it). While I don't believe it to be holy Scripture, it was an interesting read nevertheless

My question is: does anyone have any ideas on how to remember the events and people of the Book of Mormon easily? I've seen some resources giving a chronology of events, but I was wondering if there was anything else online(including maps that may give possible locations for Book of Mormon lands and cities). Thanks.

2nd Nephi Chapter 3

I read second nephi chapter 3 today.  I didn't really get much from it.  I think I should read it again, I need to have the right mindset.
